Hispanic Heritage month has come and gone. Our gators celebrated by
discussing memories from their heritage with family and teachers. We also had a
visit from former Gators who are now high school students. They shared stories,
clothing and games from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and Puerto Rico. A big
thank you goes out to Spring Creek High School and Glorim Lopez for organizing
such a wonderful experience for our students!
In FIRST grade, students finished a thematic unit about the four seasons
and are beginning a new unit titled “Here Come the Animals”. Within the unit,
students will discover animals and their babies as well as their coverings. Our
SECOND grade students are investigating life in the city and learning about
literary elements both in fiction and nonfiction texts. THIRD graders are
discovering community leaders and places of service. Within the unit, students
will write a petition to the mayor of Goldsboro. The FOURTH grade students are
learning about Native Land and the nations of Native people within each region.
They will read a fiction and nonfiction selection to strengthen their
knowledge. Be on the lookout for totem poles representing each student’s own
story. In FIFTH grade, students are discovering and investigating the inside of
planet Earth. With the knowledge of our Earth students will be more equipped to
preserve its beauty.
With holidays ahead, we will be exploring more events related to
celebrations of other cultures, animals, and plant life. We wish each one of
you a happy holiday season from your ESL staff.
