Kindergarten students will be learning about family and foods they enjoy. With holidays and celebrations near, students will have many opportunities to share unique experiences with their personal family. Students will be practicing in the 4 domains on a daily basis: listening, speaking, reading and writing.This practice will aid in the learning of English skills for the regular classroom.
1st grade students will be learning about animals and their coverings to include: fur, feathers, shells and scales. Students will read a fiction and nonfiction selection to strengthen their knowledge. They will also be practicing for mastery in the following domains: listening,speaking, reading and writing.
2nd grade students will learn about cities and vocabulary needed to describe them. This unit will focus on a discovery of Chinatown in NYC. Students will be asked to comprehend selections about the cities as well as develop sentences in writing to support their thinking. Students will work individually as well as with a partner to show growth in their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
3rd grade students are learning about gifts that you can not buy. The unit is titled "Family Gifts". With the holidays approaching, students will be able to connect personally with the text. Students will continue their rigorous effort in becoming fluent English language learners.
4th grade students are learning about Native Land. Students will be asked to research different tribes and present their findings with other students. A pow wow will be a culminating activity for this unit study. As with every grade level in ESL, vocabulary is the focus in learning English.
5th grade students will learn about the inside of the Earth. Within the unit, students will discover the many layers and physical features of planet Earth. They will read both fiction and nonfiction texts in their study.
